Unrest in Georgia after government suspends EU accession talks
The decision of Georgia's government to suspend the country's bid to join the European Union until 2028 has sparked protests in the capital of Tbilisi. The latest wave of protests follow mass demonstrations after the Georgian Dream party, accused of being sympathetic to Russia, declared victory in last month's parliamentary elections, which the opposition and foreign observers claim has significant irregularities. 'I'm very devastated ... today was the important day because they clearly stated that they don't want to have any connection with the European Union ... I think that this makes us feel very hopeless," protester Tekle Makhashvili said.
