Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr has issued a rallying cry to his team ahead of their crucial winner-takes-all decider against the Sacramento Kings in the NBA playoffs. Despite being the reigning NBA champions, the Warriors were pushed to the brink by a resolute Kings side in the playoffs, and Kerr is adamant that his team can have no excuses if they fail to progress.
Speaking ahead of the game, Kerr stated: "We've had a great season, and we've played some fantastic basketball, but when it comes down to it, it's all about winning. We can't make any excuses if we don't get the job done tonight. We've got to come out with everything we've got, leave it all on the court, and give ourselves the best possible chance of winning."
Kerr's comments come after a closely contested series against the Kings, which saw the Warriors drop the first two games before bouncing back to level the series. However, a narrow defeat in game five has left the Warriors needing to win the decisive game six if they are to keep their championship dreams alive.
Despite the pressure on his team, Kerr is confident that they have what it takes to get the job done, stating: "We've got a talented group of players who have been there and done it before. We know what it takes to win, and we're going to come out with everything we've got tonight. We're not going to let anything stand in our way."
Kerr's words will no doubt inspire his players as they take to the court for what promises to be a thrilling encounter. The Warriors will need to be at their very best to overcome a determined Kings side, but with Kerr's leadership and the talent of their star players, they will fancy their chances of getting the win they need.
As the clock ticks down to tip-off, Warriors fans will be hoping that Kerr's words ring true, and that their team can rise to the occasion and secure a place in the next round of the playoffs. Whatever the outcome, one thing is for sure: the Warriors will have given everything they've got, and there can be no excuses.
