The £2.34bn raised from the enforced sale of Chelsea remains frozen in a UK account nearly one year since Roman Abramovich ended his 19-year ownership of the Premier League club, with the charity founded to manage the funds waiting on the greenlight from the UK and EU, Bloomberg writes.
“We're ready to go and we're just waiting for approval,” said acting CEO of the foundation Mike Penrose, adding “there are complexities and delays based around political approval.”
The charity has not appointed a board and will not “make any decisions until [it] knows the money's coming. We don't want to end up with a charity but no money,” Penrose added.
