Deputy Prime Minister Irina Vereshchuk revealed Ukrainian citizens could face up to a decade in prison for taking part in referendums over joining Russia, and face bans on working for up to 15 years.
“I strongly advise residents of the temporarily occupied territories: do not take a [Russian] passport, do not go to referendums, do not cooperate with the occupiers and leave, if it’s possible,” the official stated.
Referendums are planned to take place in the Lugansk and Donetsk Peoples’ Republics, as well as Kherson and Zaporozhye regions, from 23-27 September.
