Stoltenberg: “We can't grant Ukraine membership to the alliance now”

Despite Kiev’s application for a fast-track membership to NATO, General Secretary Jens Stoltenberg said Friday that Ukraine can’t join the alliance yet, as it is down to all 30 members deciding unanimously.

Stoltenberg also slammed the “annexation of Ukrainian territory”, insisting that NATO is not part of the conflict but protects its allies and every inch of their territory, 
He also urged Russia to end the conflict, labeling it as the aggressor.

Earlier today while annexing the new claimed territories of Ukraine to Russia in defiance of international law, he made a statement call for a ceasefire with Kyiv “We call on the Kiev regime to cease all hostilities, stop the war it started back in 2014 and return to the negotiating table,” he said, adding, however, that Moscow will not “betray” the territories that want to become a part of Russia.
