BBC Bans Comments after Tweet on Queen Elizabeth Sparks Outrage

The BBC was accused of ‘rebranding colonialism’ and ‘sugarcoating’ Britain’s rule after posting a tweet celebrating Queen Elizabeth II’s ‘longstanding relationship’ with Africa.

A number of people took issue with the post, with many providing examples of how African freedom fighters suffered at the hands of their British oppressors throughout the years - including concentration camps, amid widespread starvation and torture in Kenya.

In fact in Kenya, Britain built concentration camps and suppressed with such inhumane brutality the Mau Mau rebellion, killing Dean Kimathi on the 18th of February 1957, while Elizabeth was already Queen.

As the negative outpour continued, BBC Africa's social media team banned any new comments and now only allows those tagged by the channel itself to contribute to the thread.
