It is said that people who recently approached MTN Uganda for registering mobile money agency lines have been turned down by the company asking them to bear with them as they work on technical issues currently being fixed.
“It is true the service has been frozen due to the restructuring process going on and no date has been set for resumption. We shall communicate when we are ready to resume recruiting new agent” Rhona Arinaitwe, Public relations officer MTN Uganda.
When contacted one of the MTN customer care agents, she added on;
“Unfortunately we cannot advice when the exercise will resume because the company is making technical changes to the entire mobile money system“ they said.
As of February 2021, the total number of mobile money agents in Uganda amounted to nearly 264 thousand. From 2013 onwards, the number increased annually.
