Drivers and Motorists reminded road safety in times of students crossing roads
Uganda Police Force once again reexamined road safety rules after Government’s decision of reopening schools that took place a month back and engrossed a message to all drivers and motorcyclists to be extra attentive during times children commute from Home to school and vice versa.
Vis their social media handles, ASP Nampima Farida, Pro traffic and road safety reminded them that they are the ones to be in charge because children’s ‘sight and hearing’ abilities are limited and should not be anticipated to act like grown-ups.
“When driving on the roads, let’s not expect children to behave like grown-ups. Their sight and hearing are more limited and they cannot judge speed very well. They have a difficulty concentrating and when they get in danger, they may stand still in fright instead of getting away.” Uganda police force.
“The duty is on the side of the motorist to protect this child” they added.
Motorists were also reminded that a person who causes an accident by reckless driving will be liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding two million shillings or imprisonment not exceeding one year or both.
